Bike and Pedestrian Trip Counts
Bike and pedestrian counters have been installed at six locations along the Elizabeth River Trail and at 15 locations along Norfolk’s existing bike lanes to accurately track pedestrian and cyclist use along the trail and bike network. This counter system combines the passive infrared sensor to count pedestrians on the adjacent sidewalk and an inductive loop sensor to detect bicycles in existing bike lanes. This dataset comprises data from two types of counters – Eco-Counter and Roadsys. The Eco-Counter data begins in April 2019 and is updated weekly. The Roadsys data begins in April 2021 and is updated quarterly.
Please note: The counters at the following location are currently offline, making up-to-date data from these counters temporarily unavailable:
Weyanoke Footbridge – last date August 28, 2019
E. Ocean View Avenue – last date April 28, 2021
ERT Bridge/Lamberts Point – last date April 28, 2021
Jeff Robertson Park (ERT) – last date December 17, 2021
Park Ave/Claiborne Ave (ERT) – last date December 19, 2021
We are working to correct this issue as quickly as possible.
