This dataset includes the average monthly assistance units and recipients of assistance from the Department of Social Services (DSS) by town for State Fiscal Years 2003-2014.

A <b>case</b>, also known as an <b>assistance unit</b>, consists of one or more individuals who apply for or receive assistance together under one of the programs of the Department of Social Services (DSS).

A <b>recipient</b> is an individual that receives assistance under one or a number of programs of DSS.

<li>For privacy considerations, a count of zero is used for counts less than five.</li><li>Counts are estimated due to AU/recipient address correction.</li><li>Figures may not add due to rounding.</li>
