New York Hazardous Waste Manifest Data: 2006 - 2018

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation requires shipments of hazardous waste from small and large quantity generators be tracked using a hazardous waste manifest. This tracking document must contain the names and addresses of the generator of the waste, transporter of the waste, and the destination facility of the waste. The manifest is also used to track the types and quantities of wastes being shipped as well as shipments that are rejected or re-directed.

NotesNotesThe dataset provides hazardous waste shipment information on a per waste line per manifest basis with each row in the dataset representing a single waste line on an individual manifest. A waste line is the information associated with a quantity of waste. Each distinct type of waste in a shipment is given its own waste line on a manifest. Each manifest has at least one waste line.
DisclaimersLimitationsHistorical data only – will not be updated on a reoccurring basis. The dataset is not a complete record of all hazardous waste shipments into and out of New York state because only small and large quantity hazardous waste generators are required to track their waste shipments via a hazardous waste manifest. This dataset contains information from January 2006 thru 2018. In July 2018 the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) began tracking manifest data and pre-empted states from collecting most hazardous waste manifesting data; a few delayed submission manifests were received after July 2018 and logged by DEC. Instead, manifest data is now collected through EPA’s e-Manifest system. Instead manifest data would be collected through EPA’s e-Manifest system (See additional resources).
